Just how big is the World Wide Web?
According to an expert website that tracks the Internet statistics, there were some 46 billion Web pages on the Internet by early March 2008 and more are added every minute.
Now picture that classic management concept – the value chain. If those billions of pages and all their online content lie at the chain’s start on the left, what’s at the other end?
More than 1.3 billion Web users!
That was the figure at the end of 2007, and it’s growing by an awesome 20% a year!
And remember, in the wake of the Web 2.0 revolution, millions of these Web users are also avid content providers, creating their own web logs and so on, themselves contributing to the tremendous growth of the medium. No wonder the search engines of Yahoo and Google are already prepared to index up to 100 billion web pages at a time
